Ben Freeman from Ditto came in today to set us a brief which is going to span over the year. The idea of the brief is to get us rethinking about how we approach a task. For example, instead of tackling a brief by writing a mind map, looking at bechance, going into the library and drawing up our ideas from that (which is the standard way of how most of us have been working) he was trying to get us to come up with a methodology in which we could apply to any brief which would give us more original ideas.
As a group we wrote down how we normally researched, and compared them, finding that we all had the same methodology. What the brief was showing is that we all have the same way of thinking, so we all produce similar work.
We then wrote out a new way of tackling a brief individually:
The sessions are going to span out over the year. We were told to keep thinking about new ways of tackling briefs and to document these as we try them out.
